I had the privilege of traveling throughout the West Coast with Oxfam America writers capturing the resilience and stories of Minority Farmers and Ranchers. My photographs served as a visual testament to their experiences and contributed to a vital report that brought their perspectives directly to Congress. Through these images, the voices of these communities were amplified and their critical role in agricultural policy was illustrated as part of the
Farm Bill campaign.
As an Oxfam America photographer I traveled throughout El Salvador documenting communities at risk to natural disaster. While in El Salvador, an egg farmer, Nieves of Tizapa, celebrated Oxfam’s disaster-preparedness program that helps disaster survivors build back better. The Oxfam writers skillfully described the impact of this program on Nieves, and others in her community, along with statistics and reports, but the most powerful story is told through Nieves’ eyes and the confidence and joy we can see on her face.
Photographs and written content are often seen as separate entities, but when they are integrated into a Print Production Project, they work together to create something more impactful. A narrative gives context, and a photograph provides a human connection that data and words alone cannot convey. The right images can turn a collection of words into a powerful story, transforming a project from a simple report into a living, breathing document.
